Michael R. Grine – The Unexpected

Week 3, Blog 4, July 18, 2010

THE ART:
Michael Grine offers a new spin on spatter painting. The recognizable patterns represent a control and planning not usually associated with this fun medium. I was torn between featuring the Union Jack or this favorite, PLAID.  I recommend checking out Michael’s website to see a video of him working.  www.MichaelGrine.com

Olga Alexeeva – “O” MY!

Week 3, Blog 3, July 10, 2010

THE ART: Olga Alexeeva has an intuitive understanding of paint and color; she confidently interprets form and quickly masters new techniques. Olga’s work is interesting to me because she communicate spontaneity and energy to her audience.  Olga maintains a gallery in Nashville, TN.  Take a few minutes to visit  her website www.ogallery.com

Aletha Carr – Band of Color

Week 1, Blog 2, July 1, 2010

THE  ART: Aletha Carr’s resin painting exhibits spontaneous movement.  The streaks of red, yellow, and white are rich and deep; making the contrasting translucent green seem surprisingly soft and wispy.  See more of Aletha’s artwork by visiting my Flickr Photos here and www.alethacarr.com

Aletha Carr – Resin Painting

Week 1, Blog 1, June 28, 2010

THE ART: Aletha Carr’s resin painting fascinates me.  Layer after layer of pure, rich resin colors leap off the surface of these painting.  This pure color grabs your vision by the eye sockets, and then you delve into black pools so deep you wonder, “How deep is it?!”.  On her website www.alethacarr.com Aletha Carr talks about being influence by light bouncing off wet roads.  It’s an apt description of the viewers experience.  Don’t be satisfied with looking at this amazing work, buy it and live with it.

THE PHOTOGRAPH: The challenge of photographing resin is to capture the surface richness without allowing the camera to see too deeply into the material.
